Homemade Burger

Nowadays, we rarely eat burgers on fast-food restaurants except on diners. Because my kids now prefer my burger cooking style and recipe. Although this one is kind of spicy version than the regular recipes. But what the heck, what's with a little heat on the mouth. But I guarantee this one's a true winner!

Ingredients:
  • 2 lbs. lean ground beef
  • 1/2 lbs. ground pork
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/2 cup minced onion
  • 1 clove garlic minced
  • Worcestershire sauce (1 tbsp per pound)
  • 1/2 tsp cayenne pepper
  • 1 tbsp paprika
  • 1 tbsp Tabassco sauce
  • 1/2 cup ketchup

Cooking Procedure:
Burger Patty:
  1. Mix all ingredients together in a bowl.
  2. Form into 3in wide, 1/2 in thick patties and keep refrigerated for 20 minutes to 1 hour
  3. Pan fry or grill burgers for 5-6 minutes on each side, then move them to a lower-heat area of the grill.
  4. In the last minute of cooking, lay slice of cheese on top of each burger and cover it to make the steam help the cheese melt.
Sandwich assembly:
  1. Spread a fare amount of butter on you buns, then pan fry or toast for about 30 seconds.
  2. On the bottom bun, spread ketchup and mustard. The top it with 2 slices of pickles.
  3. Then add your meat and your cheese that is now melted and then your one slice of tomato.
  4. Blanket it with lettuce and then your onion and mayo.
  5. Top it with the other half of the toasted bun, and you're all set.

Tips:
  • Burgers can be prepped ahead of time and refrigerated until grilling. If you do this, let the burgers sit at room temperature for 20-30 minutes before grilling to take the chill off.

Just so you know:

The term hamburger originally derives from Hamburg, Germany's second largest city. In High German, Burg means "fortified settlement" or "fortified refuge" and is a widespread component of place names. Hamburger in German is the demonym of Hamburg, similar to frankfurter and wiener, names for other meat-based foods and demonyms of the cities of Frankfurt and Vienna (Wien), respectively.

The term "burger", a back-formation, is associated with many different types of sandwiches, similar to a (ground meat) hamburger, but made of different meats such as buffalo in the buffalo burger, venison, kangaroo, turkey, elk, lamb or fish like salmon in the salmon burger, but even with meatless sandwiches as is the case of the veggie burger.

The hamburger is also called a "beef burger", "hamburger sandwich", "burger" and "hamburg".
