I usually prepare this sandwich whenever we have a not so fresh baked loaf of bread. My kids love it in their merienda in school or even while watching TV. This is quiet simple but it taste good and heavy. You have all the nutrients needed, packed in a sliced of sandwich.
Ingredients:
- 2 slices of bread
- 1 slice cooked ham
- 2 tbsp mayonnaise
- 1 tbsp yellow mustard
- 1/2 cup shreded cheese
- 1 large egg
- 1 tsp paprika
- salt and pepper
- 1/3 cup evaporated milk
- 2 tbsp unsalted butter
- 1 tsp cooking oil
Cooking Procedure:
- In a bowl, mix egg, milk, paprika, salt and pepper
- Stir well then set aside
Sandwich assembly:
- Mix mayonnaise and mustard, then spread on one side of the slice bread.
- Then top it with shredded cheese.
- Top it with the sliced cooked ham.
- Then top it again with a little amount of cheese then cover it with the other sliced bread.
- In a frying pan, heat oil and melt butter in medium heat.
- Dip both side of the sandwich in the custard mixture, then fry it for 2-3 minutes on each side.
Tips:
- You could also make three layers of slice bread instead on just two.
- When done frying, you could cover it with powdered sugar or pancake syrup.

In the 1930s–1960s, American cookbooks had recipes for this sandwich, under such names as French Sandwich, Toasted Ham Sandwich, and French Toasted Cheese Sandwich. Traditionally, it is dipped in its entirety in egg batter and pan fried, though it may also be deep fried.
This originated in the United States.
